In terms of teaching, we have consistently performed very well in the National Student Survey - in the 2008 results we are top in the Russell Group of research-intensive universities in 18 out of the 22 questions. For more detail see our front page and associated links.
EPSRC has awarded the School of Physics and Astronomy, with colleagues at the University of Nottingham, £6M to set up the Midlands Ultracold Atom Research Centre at the two institutions. More details

Staff are active in a wide range of research fields including Astronomy, Condensed Matter Physics, Molecular Physics, Nanoscale Physics, Nuclear and Particle Physics, as well as Theoretical Physics and Medical and Radiation Physics. Courses in all of these topics (and many more) are available in our degree programmes, which are taught by internationally recognised experts. Our teaching is well respected, having been awarded 23 (out of 24) in the last assessment.
